Quinine: is derived from Cinchona bark (Cinchona succirubra). This reddish-brown powdered bark is also known as Jesuits' Powder and was first documented in 1633 by a Jesuit missionary in Peru. In 1640, Peruvian Bark was introduced to Europe; eventually, it was renamed, Chinchona, after the Countess of Chinchon who promoted the unique plant properties of the bark. Cinchona, or quinine bark, is one of the rainforest's most famous plants and most important discoveries.
