It All Began In South Africa

In 1983, Cape Town pharmacist Lou Segal set off on a South African safari in search of relaxation. Instead, he discovered something that would change the course of his career: a traditional herbal practice that sparked his passion for natural hair care. During his travels, Lou noticed a striking difference in the hair of local tribal communities. Some individuals had hair that appeared thick, lustrous, and healthy, while others experienced hair that looked dry, brittle, and less vibrant.

Curious to understand the difference, Lou learned that a community used a milky, plant-based preparation on their scalp and skin as part of traditional rituals. Intrigued by this botanical blend, he began exploring its potential as the inspiration for a new approach to hair care.

Lou had long been interested in finding solutions for common scalp and hair concerns, including dandruff, thinning hair, and hair loss. With his background as a pharmacist and his appreciation for nature, he set out to develop a unique formula inspired by the botanical ingredients he had encountered in Africa. Combining his scientific knowledge with his passion for herbal remedies, Lou worked to create a carefully balanced hair care solution.

In 1985, he introduced his first herbal hair care remedy to customers in Cape Town. Their positive feedback encouraged him to continue developing his formulas and expanding his product range. What began as a discovery during a safari grew into a complete line of hair care products inspired by the relationship between botanical ingredients, scalp care, and beautiful-looking hair.
